Samsung i5700 Spica with Android 2.1?

Hi everyone, I stay in India and i have almost decided to buy an i5700 Spica after getting to know that it will work with Android 2.1 whereas the slightly better version (i7500 Galaxy) wont. What i want to know is, has the Android 2.1 already been released in India for the Spica? And can it run all the apps (such as Skymap) without any hiccup? (i read somewhere that it has got less RAM and hence lags while running some apps)

Hi,

The Android 2.1 is not officially available in India so far.

Regarding applications like Sky Maps ... Its too light a application for Spica... Runs flawlessly on my device... No lags at all.

When is Android 2.1 for Spica expected in India? I read in some other thread that it is already available in India officially...??

I believe you have to goto a service center to get an update, but call your service provider to double check.

My sister just got this phone today, came pre-installed with android 2.1-update1 and its great so far. Even if your phone doesnt come with it, go and download it from samsung and manually update it yourself. And if you find the UI is too sluggish, go download LauncherPro Beta from android market, makes the whole experience smoother. ;)
