Samsung J3 calendar sync issues

I work in the IT support department of a medium size company (700 users) and we use Samsung J3 phones mainly. I'm hitting an issue that is screaming a Samsung issue but I thought I would post here just incase.

Ever since a week or so ago, we are having issues with a handful of affected handsets preventing them from syncing their exchange calendar to S Planner, Google Calendar or any calendar app. It shows as as last synced (current time) in the account settings, but when you open a calendar app no events have populated through despite there being plenty in the Exchange calendar if you check on another device. On an affected handset, it doesn't matter what account I use, calendar events will not populate on any app. If I sign in the same account on an unaffected handset, the calendar events populate through straight away. So it is clear that it is a handset specific issue, not an Exchange / account issue.

This has only happened on about 7-8 handsets so far but can't figure out what the cause is. Even a factory reset does not resolve the issue so I'm wondering if it is potentially firmware / OS version related. You guys were so tremendously helpful that time, so thought no harm making a thread for this issue as well. Anybody else hitting issues?
