Samsung Kies for Mac

Hi,
one of the reasons for choosing a Samsung Android smartphone over another brand was the supposed excellent connectivity software for the Mac - at least that is how it reads in the marketing blabla.

Very odd is that the download website for Kies states that it is only for Mac OS 10.5-10.7 - that's like saying you're only supporting Windows up to Vista... there are also two different versions downloadable, depending where you go on the Samsung site. One is version 2.x and one is version 3.x.

After installing the 3.x version, it took me quite a bit just to get the phone to connect (involved going to the Tools menu and doing a "reinstall driver" from there). After all that, the first thing I tried to do (because this is an important feature for me) was to backup the phone.
This failed - miserably. It kept getting stuck at the very first item - though cancelling was possible.

When I contacted Samsung support, they confirmed that any Mac OS after 10.7 would not be supported, so I guess I'm SOL, being on Mavericks?

Has anyone out there with a 10.8 or 10.9 Mac OS been able to use Kies properly? If yes, how did you get it to work?

Thanks!
