Samsung kies unable to open file

Hi.

I have downloaded Samsung kies onto my Samsung galaxy s3 phone. When I try to open this download my phone says "cannot open file". Can toy advise me on how to overcome this?

Samsung Kies is a program that should be installed on your PC for synchronizing files and performing maintenance tasks. Please download Kies to your PC and once installed, plug in your phone using the Samsung USB cable.
