Help Samsung Note 4 rebooting with SD card.

ronhum

Lurker
Have Samsung note 4. Got it in Jan. Thought it would be good, but unfortunately it has just started randomly rebooting itself. I took the SD card out and replaced and continues to reboot. So just can't have an SD card in it. Except of course that the Wifi never stays on. Not sure if this is related. It did seem to start that about the same time. Very disappointed in this phone. But can't get another brand until next January. Any tips appreciated on why it just started doing this.

WELCOME TO ANDROID FORUMS ronhum !
Sorry to hear that you're having issues.
If you don't mind,I'm gonna ask a few ?'s to get a better idea of what might be going on w/your phone.

Could you provide the following:
Exact model number
Carrier you're using
If your phone is stock/unrooted,or,if you've modded,to what extent (Root/XPOSED/ROMS/etc...)
Brand of SD Card you have.

From what you've described so far,it sounds like you have been removing/installing the SIM Card & not the SD Card,as you've related the WI-FI connectivity issue.
If this is the case,it could just be a bad card.
Another quick & easy item to check (used to plague older phones, quality has stepped-up since):

Check to make sure the battery is clean on the contacts & isn't loose-fitting.
I had a phone where this was the case, shimming up the battery solved that reboot problem.

SAMSUNG-SM-N910A running Android 5.0.1
ATT
stock
One that was in it was Sandisk 64 GGB Extreme pro - However I got a new one Now has
Samsung 64 GB PRO Class 10 Micro SDXC
Both Cards cause reboot. I take them out and it runs OK.

Have been installing the SD card. Haven't done anything to the SIM card.
WIFI still not working. Have thought about updating firmware on router maybe this weekend.
I have taken battery out and reseated, and have now even ordered a new one to try.
Seems to be OK, just can't use SD card or WIFI.

Sounds like you have covered just about everything.
If possible,I'd check into warranty service via AT&T &/or Samsung.

Thanks. Am going to try and reformat card, and then may Factory Reset, although that is kind of a pain, and not guaranteed to do anything other than wipe your phone. Ha.
For Wifi, going to check MAC filters on router and update firmware.
If all that doesn't work, guess I'll try and get replacement, as I do have the insurance.

Just an update. I received and put a brand new battery into the phone. The WIFI started working immediately. I turned off and then put in the replacement SD card. I turned on and waited a minute to see if reboot. An immediate update from ATT started downloading, and then started optimizing 143 apps, etc. It rebooted a couple of times, but think that was tied to the updates that it seemed to complete. It is sitting here now and not rebooting, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed. We will see. If it starts rebooting again, will try a reset on the phone.

Update: Well, phone started rebooting again with new battery. I then did a factory reset on the phone. This did solve the reboot problem, but the WIFI does not work. I updated firmware on router, but made no difference. The SD card didn't really seem to matter. I carried the phone to a neighbors, but could not get his WIFI either. I then tried again trying to turn the WIFI on and it caused the phone to reboot! I guess I will contact ATT provider and see what they say.

Resolved. Took the Note 4 into the ATT store. The WiFi didn't work there either, and I told them it was still rebooting itself. They were going to have me do a factory reset, which I had already done. So, they sent me a new phone, and no charge since it was covered under warranty. New one works great. Believe the other was defective to start with as it never ran as smooth as this one. Thanks for the tips.
