Help Samsung S3 Messaging App - wrong notification tone

I have the Samsung Galaxy S3. I have configured one of my contacts with a custom notification tone within the default Messaging App. Yet the default notification plays for that person, not the custom notification.

Messaging -> select sender -> see list of messages -> long press on sender -> display sender info
Select Message Alert -> Media Storage -> Undertaker Bell -> OK

Any ideas on why this is not working as expected and how I can fix it? This is critical for me, as these are text messages from fire dispatcher with alarm information.

If the custom tone is on the SD card, move it to internal storage.

I believe it is one of the builtin tones.
1. how could I tell if it is builtin or not?
2. how can I tell if it is on SD or not? I only have the SIM card installed.

Did you download or add the ringtone you're trying to use? That's how you would know if it's a built in ringtone or not. Instead of using the messenger app go into your contacts and change it there.
