Help SAMSUNG S3 MTP Device failure

ranpoli

Lurker
I have the Samsung Galaxy S3. After connecting my USB cord and phone to 3 separate computers, I get a device MTP failure.

I've talked to 4 levels of Samsung technical support and no results. Samsung sent me a new phone and it failed to connect. (I now have two phones)

I went to the local AT&T store and no help there. Their S3 floor display failed to connect.

Any suggestions?

Im having the EXACT same problem with my 32GB sprint model but my brothers 16GB sprint model connects just fine i even started a thread trying to get help yesterday.

Uninstall any drivers that you have already installed. You have to download the Samsung Kies software and then select "troubleshoot connections" for the drivers to install properly on Windows. Otherwise, Windows will continue to cancel itself out when it tries to install 4 different drivers.

I have already tried that about 20 times and all the other drivers install and the phone is even recognized by model# a few seconds before the MTP drivers fails to install.

Any luck on this? I'm now on my 3rd Galaxy S3 and still cant get it to connect via usb...

Is it on one PC that they all fail? It seems like a PC issue and not a phone issue. You have a problem with drivers on the PC, clean them up.

Symptoms:

() The Galaxy S3 is most likely listed in device manager under Portable Devices as
"MTP Device".

() This hardware failure is a common issue with the Galaxy S3 in Windows 7 x64.

() It probably has a yellow ! (bang) next to it.

Steps to fix:

I. Right click on My Computer.

II. Left click on Properties

III. On the left side of the System Properties window, click on Device Manager.

IV. Under "Portable Devices", Double click on the "MTP Device" with the yellow bang.

V. Click the Driver tab at the top of the window.

VI. Click the "Update Driver" button.

VII. Click "Browse my computer for driver software".

VIII. Click "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer".

IX. Make sure you double-click the SECOND "MTP Device" in the list (the first one is the one that is failing).

X. It should say "Installing device driver software" and "Windows has successfully updated your driver software".
