Samsung S6 won't transfer photos to laptop

My Samsung S6 phone is not being recognised by my laptop when I use a usb. It's transferred pictures and documents before without issue. I had problems with the phone battery recently. My husband's S6 works fine. Any ideas.

Welcome. Is it not recognising the phone storage at all. Does your husband's S6 work now with the same cable on the same usb port. Has it been a long time since you last did this. Did you remember to pull down the notification shade on connection to the pc and change USB options from charge only to MTP.
Are you dragging them directly on to the pc, or using Samsung Smart Swirch pc program.
It's been a while since I had a Samsung so I'm a little behind.

The same cable does the process without problem on my husband's phone. I noticed the settings- usb tethering is greyed out with the red button to the left which will not allow me to change it.

Same laptop used so Samsung drivers work, or same cable different pc? Windows 10, 7 or Mac.
Same unlocked or carrier version of the S6 for you both?

There have been some issues reported where Samsung didn't continue updating S6 drivers from what I read, but that's probably not the case here.

It may be an issue with the S6's port if you had charging problems (which can usually be fixed cheaply, get an estimate from a reputable store), or the battery was just dying and you had it replaced?

Wifi is off, mobile hot-spot is off, and the USB tethering setting is greyed out but showing on? or off?
I don't have one so not sure which you mean. USB Tethering is normally greyed out if its not connected, but if its cabled on both ends that points to a micro USB slot fault on the S6, which is not uncommon at this age.

One other thing you can try, but doubtful it will help, is turn USB Debugging on in Developer Settings, and see what else is checked there. If no Developer Option Settings then tap the Build number in About Phone / About Device seven or several times and Developer Options will appear.

I would prefer Moderators here move this to the S6 forum or leave in the Device forum, and someone may step in and help further.
I just wanted to cover the basics as a member but may have missed something and haven't helped out in forums for a while :)

USB tethering is something different than MTP data transfers.

When you plug your phone into your PC do you get the little USB icon in the notification bar at the top? Pull down the notifications and if it's there it will give you USB options. MTP mode is what you want.

If it's not there, then it means the Phone does not recognize it's been plugged into a USB source. This would indicate a faulty cable or plug. Since you say your husband's phone works with the same PC and same cable, then I'd have to suspect it's your phones USB port.

You said you had a battery issue recently but you didn't say what it was. If you had the battery replaced, it could very well be that when the phone was opened the USB port was damaged or partially disconnected. If you're lucky, it's simply the port wasn't plugged back in snugly, otherwise it might need to be replaced.

BTW, I moved this to the S6 channel as @tonymddn suggested.
