Samsung why??

Hey hey everyone.

I am asking everyday how is possible Samsung take so long to release the marshmallow versions on their devices. I have a Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge unlocked and we're in the middle of the month I haven't received the update. Come on...
 
Did you by the phone from a carrier? It might take them longer to send the update even though Samsung already released it.

Android updates are released in stages to everyone, so for example if they started sending out the update last week it could be several more weeks until you receive it. Or you could get it tomorrow, depending on when you're randomly selected.

No no. My phone is unlocked
 
Android releases are still staggered if you buy directly from the manufacturer, looks like you weren't near the beginning of the list but it should come eventually.

That is not fair. Because I paid more for my phone so I should get early updates...
 
you will only get frustrated by complaining, and it will NOT ever accomplish anything.

Samsung has a lot of phones out there to modify the software so it works with their hardware.
and then, they release that to the carriers, and it takes them 3 times longer at a minimum to massage it so that it has their new crapware in it, and they remove the "neato features" that we really want.....

no point in talking about it, neither you nor I can change it.

It can depend on where you are in the world, and what country or region you're in. S6 Edge users in Korea might get them first. There's over 40 different versions of this phone, mostly with regional differences, many with specific country requirements, like China, and obviously Samsung can't update them all simultaneously.

There's not too many versions of Nexus, plus they're only available in relatively few countries. There's only like three versions of OnePlus One, that is China, North America, and a rest-of-the-world version. :D

Who said life was fair?

Besides, you're getting the update early compared to other Samsung phones.

Nexus devices get early updates because Google uses Nexus as their test devices. That's the whole point of the Nexus program, to get the updates earlier than everyone else.

Google sends the updates to Samsung to modify. Like add the drivers for their hardware. Plain updates from Google don't have the drivers for the cameras and screens and other stuff manufacturers add. Then Samsung sends it to their phones.

You can't have everything.
 
I think you should quit complaining, if you have Verizon, you don't ever get any updates period, at least not in this century o_O

My Note 4 and my S5 are poured in Concrete..... all the hub bub about 'updates' is just that, noise in the ether.
 
They do, almost all the Nexus devices are updated at the same time.

Outwith that, given the vast number of different Android devices out there, even by one manufacturer, do you really think an Apple like update schedule is possible?

If you do, how do you propose it would work?

Nope. There is nothing to learn from Apple. The thing here is, Apple makes the phones and thus can send system updates to them directly. They make the hardware and the components of the phone. Basically, Google is already doing what Apple does that allows them to update iPhones soon after release.

That is the purpose of the Nexus I phones. Google can send updates to them directly. Google specifies the hardware and everything.

Google has no input on what Samsung decides to do with their phones. Because it's not a Google product. It's a Samsung product. Samsung already paid to use Android. Google telling what Samsung can do with their phones is like your cable company deciding on only what shows you can watch.

You want updates as soon as Google rolls it out after announcement? Don't buy a Samsung. Buy a Nexus. I really don't see what's your issue here.
 
I am not saying that this should happen, but I prefer Apple's method. I know that there are more Android devices than Apple does...

But there is no difference between Apple's method and Googles's method in releasing the updates.

Once Apple announces the updates, they release to the various iPhones.

Once Google announces the updates, they release it to Nexus phones.

You don't seem to realize that Google isn't the one updating the Samsung devices or the LG devices or whatever. They just happen to run Android as well.
 
To-date, Samsung have issued 84 separate Marshmallow releases to just the international Galaxy S6 Edge model, G925F, worldwide, This means that they are roughly half way through the release cycle on this one model alone. Regional models are also starting and carrier branded minority variants are at the discretion of the carriers.

Updates depend on your Product code which can be found by installing, Phone INFO ★Samsung★, free from the Play Store.

It is worth noting that with the S7/Edge, Samsung have drastically reduced the number of models by doing away with the regional models, (I do not count Canada as a regional model as they are all carrier branded releases), and have reduced the number of carrier branded, minority variants. Possibly with a view to streamlining their future releases and security updates in future which will be a big improvement on, say, the 42 separate Galaxy S5 models that received over 1,000 Lollipop updates in one year alone!
 
I just did the update to 6.0 on a brand new S6 Edge Plus and I HATE IT! Wish I could revert. Changed so many things from Themes to Side Bar to MMS not working

This is why I won't be the 1st guinea pig out there to jump on a new update.
And, I wish that all apps and OS providers would give us a Revert to Previous option.

How can we know if the 'new is better' unless we try it out?
 
Downloaded 6.0.1 this morning and its running smoothly.

Lost data info on the drop down but placed an access on the main page so nothing lost.

The side bar now has more options and other things that didn't work smoothly now do.

Recommended. :)
 
every now and then.. a new member joins.. and starts this subject/complaint/discussion over.

from Apple to user.. there are NO middle man to muck things up. Even the carriers have to listen to apple's instructions.

from Google to user..
Google: Release update / version / patch
manufacturer: add in drivers for their hardware specific builds, Interface changes, crapware
carrier: test on their bands, add more crapware
User: Manufacturer and carrier can stop updates at any time they want!

if you want Google to user.. get nexus phones.
