Hi, acquired a San Francisco this week and set about removing all the Orange crud on it as per suggestions all over the place online.
All going well until yesterday afternoon when downloads stopped working and I started getting the error message "The process android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again." when I tried to do various things.
A bit of research online reveals probably some sort of issue with contacts (I made the mistake of synching with both google mail and hotmail).
Now after several factory resets the phone seems screwed, here are some of the symptons:
Some more online research reveals upgrading from Android 2.1 might help, and have found several guides, but without being able to download apps am not really getting anywhere.
According to Google Play I need to be signed in to Google Talk to download apps, but I can't find Talk on my phone, maybe I removed it?!
Help!

Now after several factory resets the phone seems screwed, here are some of the symptons:
- Can't import contacts from SIM (get the error msg above).
- Can't select contacts once restored from backup (get the error msg above).
- Market won't open
- Can't download any apps via Google Play, it says Download will start soon and then nothing happens.
