saving places on google maps

I have a Nexus 7 and cannot find where to save places on Google maps. On the pc it is easy. Being a L plater on android, can you please help.

In the new version: Search for a place or long press on a location to mark it. Tap on the address at the bottom to pull up more information. A save button (with a star) will show up. To look at a list of saved places, click on the person icon in the search bar
