Saving waypoints / favorites in Navigation

Shuff

Lurker
I was one of the lucky few who accidentally received their HTC Incredible units early. To those eagerly waiting.....you will not be disappointed. This thing rocks. I've been to two Verizon stores and all of the employees were lusting after it.

The Navigation is also "incredible" with the exception of not being able to save waypoints. With typical GPS stand-alone units, this is easily accomplished, but not with Android 2.1. Furthermore, coordinates cannot be put in, only addresses. Has anyone had any luck with some of the widgets available to perform these functions? For those of us who hunt or off-road, not every destination has a street address.

Thanks in advance!

There are a few apps for that. The one I tried out on WinMo was Backcountry Navigator. I liked the free topo maps, but my phone had a locked down GPS and didn't work right. I haven't tried any others. The android version of Backcountry Navigator is in Beta right now, but I've heard lots of good reports about it.

Thanks for the reply. I can't seem to locate the Backcountry Navigator anywhere. Do you know where I could find it or another program that can function like a stand-alone GPS? Thank-you.

It's actually still in testing, so it isn't on the market. You can go to www.backcountrynavigator.com to see the WinMo version screens and features. The android version should be very similar. If you go into the forums, there's a section on the android version that should give you the status of testing and maybe answers to some of your quesions. The developer is really responsive to questions and bug reports.

P.S. I'm looking forward to getting my Incredible on Thursday!
