Saw my first iPhone 4 yesterday

A friend has one. He's already dropped it. The screen's cracked. Not shattered, but cracked at the corner which doesn't affect the operation.

I managed not to laugh.

Not sure what the OP is trying to say, because the fact that the phone cracked after it was dropped means absolutely nothing. Whether or not the phone will get damaged depends mostly on how it impacted the ground. Some people just have bad luck and it lands the 'wrong way' and it'll crack after a fall from 2 feet, other people can drop their phone multiple times and it'll be fine. There are numerous youtube videos showing people dropping bare iphone 4's from various distances (up to 8 feet) onto the pavement and they're fine even after multiple drops.

A friend of mine dropped his HTC EVO onto CARPET and the screen separated along the edge. But I didn't get an urge to "laugh" at him, probably because I have empathy for my friends and I don't loathe droid users or hope that their devices break.

Grow up maybe? :)

Anyway, the iPhone is really nice. I had a friend bring me his on launch day and we messed around with it for hours. Face time is really cool and the display...is just amazing. So clear.

It'll be interesting when this thing is finally jailbroken. Its been a while since I used Cydia but I bet the iPhone 4 will eliminate the lag that was there before.

Why are threads like this not locked? I would never swap my Desire for an iPhone, but if my mate dropped his iPhone 4 and it cracked, I wouldn't stifle a laugh as I think "haha, you should have bought the same phone as me!!" and he wouldn't do the same if I broke the screen on my phone.

This does nothing for the community and only gives the lurking Apple fanboys reason to pipe up.

Believe me, had *I* of made a thread like this I would immediately be called a troll/fanboy/whatever numerous times, then the thread would be locked within an hour, and I would receive a warning/suspension/ban from the staff.

We see the double standard in this case because the OP happens to be knocking an Iphone, so I assume that means literally anything he says to knock the Iphone is allowed and protected, regardless of how absurdly incorrect or blatantly stupid it may be. I could be wrong of course, but I doubt it. I suspect that the OP is free to say whatever he wants, however he wants, as long as it portrays the Iphone and Apple in a negative light.
