Help Screen blacks out when on a call

My Galaxy S II has the annoying habit of having its screen go into idle or sleep mode and then blacken when I'm on a call. I want to have the "Phone" screen showing up at all times when I'm on a call, so I can access the speakerphone, etc. Is there a way to "lock" the screen in "Phone" mode when I'm on a call?

The phone screen will go blank

1) If you take phone near your face (This feature uses proximity sensor in the phone, so that touching the face does not accidentally disconnects or turns on speaker)

2) If you are already on speaker or handsfree mode, the screen goes off due to screen timeout.

I am not sure if there is a way to make it permanently ON during call.

What I do is remove the phone away from face and screen turns ON again, then I click speaker or whatever I like.
