Help Screen blank

Sometimes my screen won't show any icons for 10 seconds or more after pressing the home button, usually the phone is running slow when this happens too. Restarting the phone seems to help. Is there something I can do about this besides restarting the phone? Thanks.

Clear the cache....needs to be done periodically, not often, maybe once a month or so.
