Screen doesn't wake up for notifications

When I get a text message or any other notification, I only hear the notification sound but the screen doesn't light up. When I double tap on the screen, I see that it is there. I mean I have all the settings on, like Wake Screen for Notifications and all that, but it just won't work. I mean is that supposed to be that way?

The screen won't wake if it thinks it's covered, which might happen if the proximity sensor near the upper edge of the display is blocked or dirty. Try cleaning the top of the display area to see if that helps.

has nothing to do with that, already checked with Battery Saver on/off

Does it behave correctly with the phone booted into Safe Mode?
