Screen Lock Mystery

I have a Droid Bionic that has a PIN set up to unlock. On 2 occasions the phone has popped on with a light blue screen and an unlock icon to swipe. It unlocks the phone with no prompt for PIN number. A day will go by then the original lock screen wallpaper will come back and user will have to enter the PIN to unlock the phone.

I can't not find any settings that are out of the norm.
