Help Screen on only with power or home button

Is there an app or setting that will allow the screen to be turned on only with the home or power button?

The battery charging on/off keeps turning the screen on every few seconds

Every few seconds? That sounds like you have a dodgy charger, cable or usb port - it should just turn on once, then turn off again.

Well my thinking was that the solution was also obvious: treat the problem rather than the symptom. Especially since I'd worry the a bad charging connection might do some damage.
