Help Screen pinning?

While stepping through my settings, yet again, looking for a solution to my problem of apps disappearing from 'recents' but NOT closing, I thought maybe I'd found it: Settings | Security & Location | Screen Pinning

So I turned it on.

Then...nothing.

What exactly is a screen? It's not an app, like Twitter, and it's not apps listed in recents, and it's not a desktop. I know because none of those had Overview to tap and swipe. So what is this?

Okay, so, all these years I've been using Android, I did not know its square button was called Overview. I've always seen and referred to it as the "recent list" or "recents" button.
