Screen timeout not happening when an app is showing

I have two LG G6 US997 phones. On one of them, the screen timeout only happens if the home screen is showing (mostly, but for sure if any of most apps are showing the timeout doesn't happen). On the other phone, the screen timeout will happen if an app is visible. I have spent a good amount of time trying to find an explicit setting difference that would explain the difference in phones, but I have failed. I would like the screen timeout to happen always.. otherwise I tend to leave the phone, and on return find that the display is still on, the phone is hot, and the battery is drained. Needless to say, I have to explicitly put the phone to sleep to avoid this problem.

Have you tried factory reseting the phone and if that doesnt work contact lg
