Screen type and battery use?

Does an AmoLed screen use way less power than super LCD like my Rezound?

I rarely see anyone use an extended battery on galaxyS phone, and if Verizon gets the SGSIII and I get one, I need to know how the battery life will be. Display is the top user of power when it's on.
