Who in their right mind has not played a Lucas Arts adventure game? About 20 years ago, Lucas Arts decided to break from the mold and make adventure games that were fun, witty and enjoyable. And more importantly, your character could not die! You were free to try out everything and thereby explore the game fully - you just couldn’t die!

Do you remember Monkey Island? Sure you do! Since 1990, it spawned 5 sequels and created its own pop-culture. What about Sam and Max, Full Throttle, The Dig and many more?
Well, these games are playable on your Android via ScummVM!
ScummVM is the de facto emulator for Lucas Arts games (and a few other adventure games such as Amazon Queen but otherwise not worth mentioning... ahem!) since 2001 for the Linux platform.

The game play is pretty smooth but I had trouble using my fingers to select items on the screen so I ended up using the roller ball. Full Throttle and some Indiana Jones games also posed a problem as it required “arcade action”. Other than that, it worked fine.

Also an adventurer. Maniac Mansion was my first, but the Monkey Island and Indiana Jones Series were my favorites. (Zak Mckracken and the Alien Mind Benders was pretty good too)

In any case Scumm VM does not work on Android 2.0+ Sadly. :( :( Been waiting for this for a while.

Zak McKracken was the best of the lot by a wide margin, but playing it requires a code sheet that is kinda hard to track down (I found it on a site for game manuals). There are modified versions of the game that bypass the code prompt, but none I've seen work. I'd do this on a computer where I can ALT+TAB to my PDF of the code sheet, but I don't know how that'd work on the phone. I guess write down the code address, switch to an eBook reader, have the code sheet converted from PDF to EPUB, write down the code at the designated address, and switch back? That'd get old.

Still, it's awesome that it can be done at all, right?

Sorry to bump this thread, but I'm trying to play Monkey Island 2 on my Desire, and can't figure out how to enter numbers for the "Lame-O Copy Protection" at the start. Can anyone help?

Open your .scummvmrc in your favorite text editor. In the [scummvm] section at the top of the file add the following line:

copy_protection=0

Down in the [monkey2] section add the following:

boot_param=10001

Save the file and launch ScummVM and never be bothered with those screens.

Enjoy!

Can you please tell me how you installed scummvm? I've been working on this for hours! I have a DX and it does not recognize either apk for some reason. Tried different apps to install from sd card. Plus the .zip file that your supposed to unpack to the sd card appears to be corrupt. PLEASE HELP!!!

I have never played an adventure game :( I tried to get scummvm to work on the PC and I could never get it to load a game sigh.

How to install Scummvm on android (I have a Desire)

As you can see on this site:

Scummvm 1.1.1 Unofficial port (SDL backend based) - 2 June 2010 - Android Games Development

Here is what you need to do:

download: http://anddev.at.ua/data/scummvm/scummvm.zip
to your PC.

Connect your Android phone to the PC and unzip the files anywhere on the SD card (create a folder called scummvm for example, and onto there).

Go onto your phones browser, and navigate to the site linked above:
anddev.at.ua/news/2010-6-2-1-0-8
Press either of these files (ScummVM-1.1.1-vorbis.apk or ScummVM-1.1.1-tremor.apk (28.06.2010)) thus beginning the download automatically. Once downloaded it should prompt the installation of it, if it doesn't find the .apk file on your SD, it should be in a folder called download or downloads.

WARNING!!! Scummvm can only be installed on the internal memory card, which is a bummer, as its approx 23 MB.

Now you have the program (yay), but you need some games to play! I'm sure you can find some scumm games legally somewhere, otherwise;

Now you have some scumm games, connect your phone to your PC, and create a folder called scummvm games for example. Copy a game onto that folder.

Now go onto your phone and open scummvm (which is an app now), and load the game. This part is tricky and stupid, but you can figure it out. What you need to do is navigate to the SD card and the folder scummvm games. Press the wanted game, and press "load".

Enjoy!

Definitely, I am agree with you. I have read whole article and it is an interesting one and helpful to me. I am appreciated to share valuable information.

Has anybody downloaded these files? My Trend Micro Internet Security warning pops up and lists both sites as "undesireable" ... I would love to have any Lucas Arts game!

The files are great mate but Trend Micros sucks ass that is all ...the emulator is awesome! ;)

Scumm VM 1.2 is out for Android! You can find a 24GB collection of all the Scumm VM compatible games on the torrent trackers.

That torrent is almost a legends on its own!
This new version is VERY nice...loving this stuff for sure...just wish I could use a Wii controller for my mame emulator :-(

Yeah, I pretty much gave up on ScummVM on the phone. Too hard to play anything on a touchscreen. On the PC it's brilliant.

oh but scummvm and rpgs are not a prob for me...now, other more action oriented games are a pain though ...still I love playing mame Outrun on the go

There's a new version that apparently works on 2.1+ on their website
ScummVM :: Downloads
not in the market yet.

It keeps crashing when I try to "Add Game."

Using a rooted Eris, xtrRom 5.0 beta. Anybody having similar issues?

Hi There,
My name is Ron.

I cant seem to find this file "scummvmrc " where it suppose to be?

Thanks,
Ron.

Open your .scummvmrc in your favorite text editor. In the [scummvm] section at the top of the file add the following line:

copy_protection=0

Down in the [monkey2] section add the following:

boot_param=10001

Save the file and launch ScummVM and never be bothered with those screens.

Enjoy!
