SD card <--have searched but not found

I made the switch from iPhone to Android and have searched the web but can't find an answer to this:

I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 to which I added, and formatted, a 32gb SD memory chip. When I plug the phone into my Windows 8 machine, the SD card appears as the K: drive.

I copied 2,000 songs to the card. I unplugged the phone, then plugged it back in to the computer. The songs were still there on K: and I tried playing a couple to make sure they transferred correctly.

However, neither the "Play Music" or "Music Player" app can see these songs.

I purchased an app called "Synctunes" to sync itunes playlists and try it that way, but it put all the songs into the (small) 16 gb main memory, which is not what I want, so I had to deleete those songs

I changed "On device" to "all music" and still nothing.

There doesn't appear to be anything at all on the SD card. Even photos are stored in main memory.

How do I make the music player and other apps use the SD card? Do I have to create a special subdirectory for my music? Is there anything I can use that was as easy as just clicking "Sync" in iTunes? I'm willing to buy a third party app but before I do I want to be SURE it can read the SD card.

Thanks for helping a newb.

I tried downloading the demo version of Neutron and it found 38 of the 1000 songs (all are .mp3 format, 320 kbps). Is this 38 the demo limit, or is it only finding 38 songs? If it's the former, I'll pay for the upgrade, if it's the latter then this isn't the program for me.

Install Kies on your desktop. Its basically iTunes for Samsung. Although I cant understand why drag and drop did not work for you. Personally I use Winamp for Windows to sync my music to my phone

Actually, this did not work for me either on my Razr Maxx HD. Nobody could explain why. I'll try this soon and see if ity works for me.

You may want to try this (hopefully I'm telling you correctly). On the Note, do you have "My Files" as an app? Try My Files-->external_sd and see if you see your music there. If not, pull up the menu while still in external_sd and create a folder. Name it "music" or whatever you want to call it. Plug your Note back into the computer and open the K: drive, find the music folder you created and drag and drop your music there. Unplug and your music should be accessible by the music player. Not 100% sure if this is right though...
