Help SD Card Issues 16gig Class 10

Hello All.

I am new to Android. I have been a BlackBerry guy for over ten years. I tried the iPhone 4 on T-Mobile, and it was lame. Then I tried the BB Torch on T-Mobile and it was good, just slow. So I traded for a new Mytouch 4g.

I love the phone. It is FAST. I have a glaring issue that I cannot seem to figure out. I have had a 16gig card that I used in my Torch that worked amazing. I kept that card, and installed it in the MT4G. I loaded up a bunch of songs on it (mp3), and took some pictures of my little girl, and a couple of days later the card popped up on the top of the screen and had a question mark in it. The message said that the card was blank, or it had unsupported files on it.
So I was forced to format the card. This erased everything on the card. So then I put a few songs on it, and then took some pictures here and there. It lasted this time for a couple of weeks, but today, just did it again.

Does anyone know what the heck is going on with this? I am so frustrated because I use my phone as my portable music device, and this is not working very well.

Please help.

Thank you,
Randy

did you reformat in the phone itself or computer?

I did it in the phone, both times. It won't recognize the card unless I do that. Pretty irritating. The card was an expensive one, and I would love to use the phone as my everything device.

Hopefully you can help.

dj,

What card do you have?

BTW, welcome to Android. I was a +10 year BB person myself. Rooted for the last year with a Nexus One and have a MTouch4g also.

First off, you need to get backup programs for your phone. If not rooted, MyBackUp Pro (Market app) is good. If rooted we need a day to bring you up to speed on that stuff. MyBU will take care of everything you can backup without being rooted. Just don't bu and restore contacts and calendar. They are done automatically with auto sync.

Second, get sdformatter from web: SD Formatter 2.0 | Download | SD Memory Card | Digital AV | Consumer Products | Support | Panasonic Global

Read the pdf for settings--you want full erase on, not quick erase and size adj on.

Do this thru an sd card reader. Then reinstall in phone. I assume you currently have no data from card saved to pc. If so, put it back on phone. Recommend backing up sd card to phone regularly.

If you still have issues it is the card or something with the phone messing up the card. More research needed (Google) in that case.

Good Luck

Ken

Ken,

Thank you very much for the time. With myself being so new to this operating platform, I am grazing the surface before I start getting into it as deeply as I was able to do with the BB. When I traded someone for this mytouch 4g (traded my torch) he had told me that it was "rooted and looked, and acted like a EVO". I had no clue what that meant.

When the first SD crash had happened, I did a full factor reset on the device. I am not sure if this took the "root" out of the phone as I do not know what this is, and what it does quite yet.

The SD card just says micro SD HC 16gig Class 10.

I will try the other things, and get back with you.

Thank you for the help, greatly appreciated.

Factory reset won't unroot

If you can install apps like Titanium Backup from Market and run them you are still rooted. My MT4g is not rooted so someone else here would have to help you on Model specific procedures. The sd card steps should be universal.

the root should mean nothing in regards to your sd not working. I have had a bb curve and a rooted mt3g and that card (used in both phones 8 gb) and works perfectly in the mt4g. I'm starting to think the card may be going bad.

It could be something with the card. I had a mytouch slide 3G and I updated my phone to the new mytouch 4G and I used the SD card from the 3g and it FRIED in my new phone. So I lost EVERYTHING...So i get a new SD card, and have even MORE issues still. I couldnt get my phone to sync with my computer which meant not being able to put music on mine (A HUGE downer for me!). Finally I get the phone to allow me to add files but then the files are nowhere to be found on the SD card. I used a rescan app from the market and that fixed my card. So maybe you need a rescan to fix yours?? I used this one https://market.android.com/details?id=com.bero.sdrescan&feature=search_result It was free and it fixed my SD card. Im not a super tech when it comes to this phone, its new to me too.But thought id suggest a rescan. Hope you can get it fixed!
