SD Card to Android and vice versa?

Hello,

I have a SD card to USB C card reader/writer device; wondering how I can transfer photos & vids from my SD card to my Google Pixel 2 XL phone and vice versa. When I plug in the device to my phone, the indicator light flashes and the "File Commander" app pops up; however, when I pop in my SD card my phone doesn't detect the SD card thus can't access those files.

Is there a way around this without the use of a laptop?

So file Commander does not see the sd card when connected ?
Have you tried installing a different file explorer from the play store that may work?

Have you tried inserting the card before plugging the device into the phone?

Third-party file management apps will need to prompt you to grant permission to access the external storage every time they need to access it. If you're not seeing that prompt, it's not going to work.

You may want to try another app. I personally like Solid Explorer:

Do you know how the SD card was formatted? If it was NTFS you might have to copy the files using a PC after all.

If no matter what you've tried to get your Pixel to detect and mount that microSD card hasn't worked, I'd look into trying a different USB-type C adapter or OTG cable. Or have you tried using a different microSD card?

Is this a matter where you want to use a card to transfer photos and videos between your phone and something like a camera device (bypassing the need of your laptop as an intermediary)?
