Search a keyword ?

May I suggest to have a function of searching a keyword in ALL the fields of calendar and contacts ?

Now, one cannot search a event in calendar and if you want to search something in contact other than the name , it doesn't work. Suppose there is a keyword " bestfriend " in the note of a friend's note in contact, I could not search this friend in contact or by any other means. Can the developer of Android consider this important thing?

Thank you !

Hi there new member, welcome. I have both good and bad news for you.

One, with Android v1.5 what you request is simply not possible (due to a very secure data access model, and lacking content providers).

Two, with Android v1.6 it will be. Possible, that is -- every app must still be updated to react to search requests, and is free to decide for itself what constitutes a keyword match, that is, which fields to include. I guess we'll see which apps will take advantage of this new possibility.

Personally, this is the area that disappoints me the most, by several factors, because it's painfully obviously a decade behind the now-dead PalmOS. :(

Thank you ! But when is Android 1.6 released ? and as I am a newbie, how can I upgrade to Android 1.6 ? Will the events and contacts lose because of upgrading to Android 1.6 ? and will the warranty expired due to upgrading ?

Is upgrading free of charge ?

Thank you !

Nobody can really say for sure when v1.6 hits our phones -- or how. For some it will most likely be an unattended over-the-air update, for others it will probably be a manual firmware update ... and for others there will be no (official) firmware update.

In any event, all your data should be safe, so don't worry. (It'll be like doing a Windows Update, not a reinstall, if you know what I mean.)

Oh by the way ... you might want to rephrase your signature; it comes across as very harsh, and, as you'll find, you won't like everything in Android...
