I have found that the contact seach basic application on Android lacks a critical functionality in that it can only search by name. In my Outlook files I always have notes that have key words like "plumber", "electrician", or a former company name where someone worked so that I can search on that word and find the contact even when i can't remember the person's name, (a situation that occurs all the time for me).
At one time I had two search applications that I could use to seach on a key word in the notes field. One was called aurora and the other's name I can't remember, but it had "file" or "contacts" in the name. Since I had to wipe my HTC Incredible twice (a battery issue that corrupted the phone to be discussed somewhere else), I lost these apps and they never re-appeared in my marketplace list or on the marketplace.
This has been one huge bummer, but the good news is that I found an app, "Contact Finder" for .99 on the Android Market that does the seach on the notes field. This app is a little fiddly and I just got it but seems to do the job. The old search apps that worked ont he notes and other fields that I liked would search all fields in the contacts or "people" folder just by putting the key word in the search field. In this app you are offered a number of search fields and you have to put the key word in the correct field.
In my searches for an app that would do this I found much frustration on the web posted by users with the same problem as I was experiencing. So I'm posting this in hopes of helping others. Also, if you know of other apps or have any idea where the disappearing ones that I had have gone, I'd really be interested to hear.
