Help Searching for GPS (after ICS update?)

I'm getting poor GPS lately, which I think started after the ICS update.

I used to get fast, easy GPS lock even from inside my living room. Now sometimes it is slow to find it. Could the ICS update have anything to do with it? Could it be a hardware/warranty thing?
 
Same here. Many others have reported the same too. Rumor on the town is, they are working on an update to fix this.
 
The .215 leak seems to do a great job of fixing this. Outdoors or near an opening my Maxx locks multiple satellites in 2 seconds or less. Inside takes about 5 seconds. The 211 version definitely took its sweet time inside and out.

anyway we can get this leak without being rooted?

Yes. At the top of the RAZR/Maxx section is the all things root section. There is a thread about the .215 leak. Does not require any rooting of the phone and actually easy to do. Has link to the file and instructions. But as others have advised, it does void the warranty so do so at your own risk. That being said, this one took me a few tries but was able to get it working and loving it so far.
 
In the meantime, at the Motorola Owners Forums, they are starting to take notice of this issue... Unless an increasing number of owners complain, they may or may not spend the time and effort persuing a solution to this issue, so, if you could, please head over (register if you have not already) and post your problem in the thread that is going,

BTW, a few folks over there have posted that they have curiously found that their GPS captures a satellite signal if they toggle the bluetooth on/off. I tried it, and it did work for me. Toggling the GPS did not do it for me, opening/closing the NAV or JogTracker app did not do it for me, but the Bluetooth trick did. Anyone have a clue why that might work?

Thanks, I just registered on the forum and posted my complaint.

Good to know others are experiencing this.
 
Still having problems with GPS after ICS and waiting for an official solution that won't void my warranty. If there's not a solution I will have to sell this and get another phone. Sad, but I use GPS a LOT and if it suddenly stops working like this I have much less reason to keep this phone (which I otherwise have loved).
 
I, too, have lost my GPS in my Razr Maxx after updating to Android ICS. Who needs to know? Where do you go to register a formal complaint? And Google / Motorola definitely need to "un-hose" the widgets, not just the GPS!
 
Bluetooth on off did not fix the problem.
It is not only related to Google Maps, but all apps that use GPS.
It's not that the GPS will not work, but that it can take 3 to 5 minutes to get a lock.
I think when Moto made this a "World Phone" they did something to the GPS radio.
I hope they get a fix soon, as I use GPS almost every day.

Same problem here after the ICS update.
GPS works, but takes like 3 minutes to sync.
 
I went through this before with Samsung Galaxy II. Every day and on every forum, there were new tips/suggestions about tweaking this setting or that setting or doing some sort of trick...and nothing ever got resolved and the GPS feature was completely written off for that phone. The Razr was fine before; why did they have to go and break it?
 
It seems to have to do with what memory is still open (apps running in the background). When I close out the background stuff (hold "home" button than swipe to the right all that is open), give it 45sec or so, it will finnially pick up the location and work. What a pain!
 
I was having the same issue. moset on another forum said to try gps doctor a 2 dollar app. I gave in and tried it, worked like magic!
 
I still say its something in the programming of the GPS on .211. Running .215 flawlessly still and GPS locks 6+ satellites in about 1-2 seconds and accurate within 10 feet. I can't complain. Wish they'd release the update for everyone already though cause it does work.

GPS Doctor worked (I think)!

I did this today, and it seems to have WORKED. I was skeptical, but why not, I will drop a few bucks and roll the dice, better than sitting here waiting for weeks for a fix to appear.

Got an apparent good signal on the drive home with like 9/10 locks. Then from inside, I just got about 6/7. When I open Google Maps, the blue circle initially appears then shrinks rapidly down to the little blue triangle.

Unless there's some smoke and mirrors, this seems like a fix.
 
The point is, we should not have to purchase any additional apps to make the GPS work.
Motorola needs to get off their a$$ and fix what they broke!!!!!!!
