Second Thoughts

All,

As you know I have been on the Razr train for some time now, but now I am having second thoughts. The only reason is the galaxy Note.

I am thikning Galaxy Note is THE flagship of all devices at the moment. I think it will be very powerful with Exynos and a good GPU.

I used to use PDAs back in the day and loved them and now am thinking that maybe that would be the perfect marriage of a phone and a PDA. The only thing that is stopping me from buying it is the fact that I already have Galaxy Tab 10.1 that serves the purpose of a netbook for traveling time and am not sure I would really have a use for the Note.

Do you think it is worth considering the Note as a phone?

I think the Note is definitely worth considering. Problem is will it be coming to Verizon? I haven't seen anything to show that it is and in that same breath I haven't seen anything to show that it won't.

It's a gamble right now.

The real question I'd have in your position is which one replaces the other? Are you often without the Tab and need a big screen phone? Is the note too big without being big enough (gigantor phone but not quite a pad/notebook)?

I'm kind of sold on the current phone format as a max size, just because of portability. That pretty much rules out the note (or really anything bigger than a Razr/Gnex) on my end. If that isn't a concern, and you can convince yourself it isn't completely redundant, go for it.

IMO the note is not worth considering. It is a touchwiz device which means all updates will come from Samsung and they have been horrible updating their devices. Samsung has a habit of abondoning their current devices in order to drive sales. Their customer service is easily the worst in the industry. Their devices are always made from cheap plastic and being such a large size it will be more prone to break in a drop. Imagine adding a protective case to an already large device and holding up to your head for a phone call. Reception on Samsung devices are known to be the worst in industry. I could go on but I will stop here.

Not an issue as I am in Europe and would be buying Sim free anyway. The thing is the devices is darn expensive at 600GBP x 1.6 USD

Good point. My usage is: Office - laptop. Room Tablet, everywhere else phone.

The two things are its size and actual usefulness in today's world. I loved the format in the past, but nowadays it may prove to be too much.

I do not really care about updates. Dropping devices is not my thing either, never broke a single phone out of the 20something I have had. Hmm, I have not had a Samsung for a long time. The GTab 10.1 is a nice device though.

Rethinking it I might come to a conclusion that my love to the old PDA style devices might be out of date and carrying a phone that huge might be a hassle. I would also have a very limited use for it having a laptop and a tablet too.
