Secure folder text messages

For some reason I'm not able to use any messaging app that I put in the secure folder.
Then when I leave the secure folder I'm able to send text messages as usual.
Is this? common

I haven't used it since switching from the galaxy S8 to the S9 Plus. But I used Telegram and Allo from the secure folder with no issues.
