Security???

Hi

I have an S4, and was looking to install a security app, to protect the phone. Could anybody recommend a good firewall/security app?

thanks

LBE Privacy Guard firewall and permission manager, lets you decide what permission an app can have.

You would be amazed at what permissions certain apps want. This will prompt you as to what permission you allow.

do apps sometimes want permissions that are not listed on the market installer?

I avoid installing apps like flashlights if they need "internet access", "access to network based location" or "access to phone identity" or any other crap they shouldn't need to do their job in this example switch on an LED :)

I always avoid certain apps where permissions don't tie up with what the app is supposed to do. Like calculator apps that require things like internet, camera, contacts, SMS and GPS.

I've tried most of the free ones for months or more: avast, lookout, AVG, etc.

1) I don't believe that I need malware protection since I only install apps from the Play Store and rarely from Amazon. And I use the same common sense I employ on my computers regarding websites, etc.

2) Cerberus is BY FAR the most accurate regarding locating my device and has as much or more functionality regarding recovering a lost device (turn on microphone, screenshot, email a front facing camera pic, etc.)

I recommend you try the Cerberus free one week trial and test it as best as you can to see if it is more accurate than the others for you (to me it wasn't even close). Then you need to buy a lifetime license for up to five Android devices.

I agree with gtbarry.

If you're going to install a security app, make sure its one with anti-theft protection.

The anti malware ability of apps are questionable at best (I'm of the opinion you don't need it), but I think everyone should have antitheft.

I agree with you guys about the anti-theft , but for me, my phone never leaves my side so i don't worry about theft, or malware, virus, because i only download from the playstore.
However, i do like to be given a prompt on what an app is trying to get permission of and i have the choice to allow or deny said permission, which still allows the app to do its purpose but without reading my contacts, making calls, ect ;
