Help Seek Thermal Camera

At www.thermal.com you will find an amazing new camera that sees long wave infrared images on the phone's display. Prior to this time cameras like this cost over $2K. This one is only $200 and plugs in to the bottom of certain cell phones.

Basic requirements for an android cell phone to be able to interface with the camera are an operating system revision 4.4 or greater, a micro USB port (don't know if this is a special connector) on the bottom of the phone facing the right direction (widest part of the connector is toward the back of the phone) that can handle "USB On The Go".

Right now I have an LG Optimus F6 Jelly Bean 4.1.2. phone. My question is: Can I upgrade my F6 to 4.5 Kit Kat and will the phone then have USB On The Go capabilities? If not, can I change phones to the F60 and gain those capabilities? The F60 is available for $49 after all rebates, but I would like to stick with my F6 if possible. Or is there another inexpensive phone out there that you would recommend? (One that I might never connect service and just use the phone for the camera system only)

Note: I have contacted Seek, but the help was poor as they should have a list of phones that are acceptable, but do not. LG did not bother to reply. I would greatly appreciate your advice.

THX,

Steve Morris

The LG Optimus F60 is a low/mid range phone. It comes with Android 4.4.2 which should be OK for your purposes. But it apparently does not support USB OTG, at least the spec sheet does not mention it. Usually if a phone has a feature they make sure to mention it because, after all, manufacturers want to brag all they can. Your F6 apparently does not support USB OTG either.

USB OTG, when available, is usually found in higher-end phones. If in doubt and you have access to the phone and permission, there's an app USB OTG Checker that can be installed to determine OTG capability.

However, you have one other problem - the orientation of the micro USB port, which is the same as the charging connector. No spec sheet is going to list the micro USB jack's orientation. You will have to get someone to look and tell you or have physical access to the phone yourself.
