I am posting this here because I am looking for an experienced Android software developer who help us flesh out a concept to working prototype.
Advanced Cybernetics Group provides high performance real time embedded system software for autonomous robotic devices.
A military customer application requires periodic updates of vehicles location and ETA. These inputs are fed into an adaptive model based process controller, similar to other systems implemented by ACG and described on the web site.
Two alternative approaches need to be evaluated:
1. Mobile device provides current location on a periodic basis to a web server. Web server forwards request, based on current GPS location (supplied by mobile device) and known destination location, to Google Maps OR EQUIVALENT (e.g. waze etc) web server. ETA is returned and provided to the adaptive process controller.
2. Mobile device application integrates with Google Maps/Waze/etc android application, through API, to poll device resident ETA estimation software. ETA is returned and provided to the adaptive process controller.
I am a control systems guy, not familiar with the API needed to talk to mobile device resident GPS aware apps.
I am requesting support from an experienced software developer, who is well versed with both options presented above and can therefore provide a circumspect perspective. I would prefer this to be the same person who also can help with the software development to flesh out from concept to working prototype. Note that the prototype, is for proving the feasibility of the process envisaged. It will need to be revised, based on custom and rugged customer devices, which may not be android, but will certainly be Linux based. There will therefore be follow on work, after the prototype is completed and demonstrated to be work as advertised.
Since the mobile device may not be android, I am leaning towards option 1. However, I am unclear how best to proceed. Hence the request for help. I am not a regular on this forum, please contact me directly.
