self rooted Android-image (like 8.1 Oereo or other) gets security-updates by itself

Hi, sorry if this question is still in the net, please help me, i need the help.

If i install / root an 8.1 Oero Image (or somehow any other image) on my smartphone.

1. Does this 8.1 Oero rooted Image gets it security updates by itself or do i have to root it by hand everytime??
2. Does 8.1 Oreo image update to 9.0 Pie automaticlly or do i have to root 9.0 to my smartphone by self hand??

Do you know answer 1 or 2, or both?

If you have stock firmware then it will get updates normally, i.e. as and when (or if) the manufacturer pushes them for your phone.

If you install a pre-roooted ROM then the ROM developer might provide over the air updates, or you might have to apply them manually. How often they'll update the rom for security patches will be up to them, and you won't receive over the air updates from the manufacturer.

If you modify the firmware yourself, e.g. rooting, it will depend on what phone you have and what changes you make whether you receive and can install OTA security updates. I emphasised those last 3 words because in some cases you might be notified of an update but unable to install it. I'm a bit dubious about installing OTA updates on a modified phone anyway: a patch update is designed to be applied to a particular set of software, and if you have modified the software there is a chance of incompatibility. So the safe method would be to flash an updated image and then re-root (always assuming that the update doesn't prevent you re-rooting. The really safe way is to check whether it works for someone else before doing it yourself ).

For anyone to be more specific they'd need to know what phone you have.

I have a rooted Moto G5 plus,and would probably not trust ota updates.. I am going to root the 9.0 myself. I believe if you are capable it's a safer bet. Still new at this but it's pretty fun no?

mhhh, its fun, i know Linux since i am 14 years old and its probably shit but capable lol I understand the hole issue now.

OK. Thanks for the answers, i understand the topic now, i buy an old good smartphone from ebay und install LineageOS on it.
