Sending SMS: Recipient no longer auto populates

No idea what has changed. When I used to send SMS message. I would click on the search and as I typed the name it would auto populate from People in my address book and give me drop down list of all those with similar names. Now I have to search my entire address book. Phoning someone and emails work perfectly, but SMS messaging seems to have changed

Which SMS app do you use for texts?

The standard one that comes with the phone. It used to work now I have to search for names by scrolling through all names. I can't find any settings to change anywhere

If you go into your Settings >> Accounts menu, if you open both your email account and your texting app do both still have 'Contacts' syncing enabled?
