sensation, amaze, SGS2, or Galaxy Nexus

I'm on Virgin Mobile right now, but hardware difficulties and slow data have made me reconsider. Right now I'm strongly considering selling my Triumph, buying one of these phones, and activating a T-Mobile $30 plan.

I figure I can get around $200 for my Triumph and I'd prefer not to add too much to that cost. Consequently, my main consideration is buying a Sensation used. If I move up a 50-100 dollars I can snag a SGS2 or Amaze. Finally, there is the 399 Galaxy nexus.

Consequently, here are my questions:

Should any of these phones be avoided?

Which have strongest modding communities? I remember my Epic 4g never got CM7.

Is it worth it for HSPA+ or is the Speed of the Sensation sufficient?

Which phone would everyone suggest and why?

Any phone I'm missing? (I figure the one s is too new and I couldn't get a decent price)

The Sensation runs at speeds up to 14.4 mbps. It won't hit that, probably you will see speeds closer to 7 or 8 mbps. This is plenty fast enough for pretty much anything including streaming videos. Anything faster than that is not really necessary for most users.

The HTC Sensation has better development than the Amaze, the Amaze isn't much of a step up from the Sensation so out of the 4, that would be the one I would cross off right away. The Sensation, Galaxy s2, and G Nexus all have great development. Nothing to worry about with either of those 3 devices.

The Galaxy s2 is a nice phone, but The G Nexus is cheaper and pretty comparable in every aspect except camera. It's a good camera, just not as good as the S2. For me it wouldn't be enough for the price difference.

So that would leave me choosing between the Sensation and the Nexus. If the price is the same, or withing $50, I'd choose the Nexus. It's an official Google device, which gives it advantage (stock ics, faster updates.) and the screen is beautiful, and the battery life is better. That being said, if you could land a Sensation for $100 or so less, it becomes a pretty tough decision. I think I would still choose the Nexus though.


Sorry, didn't see where you said S2 for $50 - $100 more. In that case. I would choose the Galaxy S2 for sure.

If everything was equal, I'd likely choose the the Galaxy Nexus, but with it just now dropping to 399, so I doubt I could get it much cheaper than that used. After looking, I can get a sensation for around 250 or less so that is what I'm leaning toward now.

Yea for $150 less can't say that I blame you. The Sensation is a good phone and I think you will be happy with it.
 
For $150 I'd go to Best Buy and get the One S. Or wait until Mothers Day weekend as the rumor is all T-Mo phones will be free like last year. That was told to me the different times by T-Mo employees, but no proof yet. Worth the wait I think though.

I can only image that you are talking about contract phones which are in no way worth the cost now that prepaids are out there. Sorry I didn't specify in the original post.

I have a Gravity Smart and I love the keyboard! But you can't get more than 2 downloadable apps on it and the friggin memory is already full!

Sad Panda...

So I usually use my Exhibit II. Right now I'm eyeballing The Samsung Blaze..... :D
 
Seriously JaeWeb, how did Samsung decide to make a phone that gets full after two downloads? And furthermore, why did a carrier buy it?
Mine is rooted, bloat removed, and still almost impossible to use. I'm going to feel embarrassed to sell it on eBay.

The stock LG Optimus V has enough room for maybe five apps...
That's what got me started rooting to begin with! :D
