Sense, Eclair, Cupcake - I don't even understand what they are

Hi

I'm new to smart phones and have an HTC Hero - I don't really get what some of the software is. especially: Sense, Eclair and Cupcake.

The only one I vaguely 'get' is Sense, which I think is the interface whereby I control the phone, while Android runs as the OS in the background - but I could be entirely wrong. If I want them installed do I use the update service or market place? Or were they already shipped on my phone?

I'm so confused  I read the thread 'What is HTS Sense' and still didn't understand :o

Many thanks in advance

Hi Elvis480 ,

Theirs no such thing as a stupid question! :D

1) Sense = The UI {User Interface} on many HTC Phones. It is to put it simply how the phone looks and feels on the screen. Theirs plenty of videos but here is a good one to show you. here

2) Cupcake = Android 1.5 , Donut = Android 1.6 ,

Ah, I see. I'm getting it now. I certainly don't think I'll be risking bricking my phone as there's plenty of fun things to do on it otherwise. Thanks for clarifying it all though - I really appreciate it. I'll watch the vid in my lunch hour. I think Sense is what I'm using already.

Thanks again
