Serious Damage to Samsung epic - but fully functional!

Here's a test.. pull over on a busy 8 lane highway to check for something in the toolbox of your truck and place your Smartphone on the toolbox and drive off..

Yeah... I'm not sure how many cars ran over the phone before I could get to all the parts scattered on the road. removed the case, put battery and back lid back on on. Screen is not just cracked.. it's shreaded and almost impossible to read and use. some spots on the lcd look very fragile and are now flaking apart.. Nice.

HOWEVER.. everything seems to be work on the phone and the phone is even bent now.

I'm yet to check what my options are. But I'm not the primary account in the family plan. My wife opened the family plan a year ago exactly 10 days from now. I came in like 4 months later. the plan says she get's some sort of upgrade options in a year - possibly full? She has an Evo. Can she claim to upgrade to the epic and give it to me?

No insurance, and you know what, no regrets - insurance is a rip. What's Sprint going to tell me? Can they fix it? Am I looking at $650 to replace it??? Not that this phone hasn't been worth $650 to me!

Any good alternatives since looking to buy again. I love the Epic. I need a keyboard on the phone has really changed how I live (yeah really). But if blue skying .. a phone I could connect a monitor, keyboard and mouse to might come in real handy for me.

I really doubt your insurance deductible would be $650. She could blow her upgrade on you, or you could look into a used phone

I've got no insurance. Yeah, will likely use her upgrade - would anybody know... is that family primary 1yr upgrade a full upgrade discount? They going to ask questions or ask for her phone back. the record of what phone you got is just a formailty right? Maybe we can change all that up online. We were were talking about making me the primary some time ago, but i read that you can't use the 1yr upgrade for 3 months after switching primaries. Appreciate any tips on how to navigate the Sprint family plan primary upgrade thing.

You can switch the primary line on the account with a quick phone call. I think you can do that up to every 90 days. Then you can just use the upgrade on your number. And it should be a full upgrade.

If you leave the upgrade on her number and get the phone that way and then swap it to your phone number they'll cancel any rebate for not leaving it active on that line for 30 days.

But if we switch the primary line phone number, I'll be 4 months short of a year as I came in 4 month after her.. right? Switch the primary and wait to hit a year?

I guess the question is.. can she walk in and upgrade to an epic without activating it and just hand it to me. Later call in and say she did not like it and sold it and ask to update her phone online back to an evo? does it even mater.

Are the sims/sd cards interchangable and does it really matter what phone customers are actually using? Any activation or serial issues? They asking for the phone back during upgrade?

I think you can just go in there and use her upgrade for your line with a simple switch by the rep. Nothing shady about it.

Nobody mentioned that if you are a silver premier member with sprint that you will only get $75 off at 1 year. And if you are a gold premier then you can go in and get one with her upgrade and put it on your line. You will have to leave it on her line though for 30 days to get your mail in rebate. If you don't want to do that then go to a radio shack or a best buy. Then you don't have to worry about rebates.

Yeah.. I got details last night from online chat with Sprint rep. It's only $75 dollars off and it requires her to refresh a 2 year contract. She does not have to use the phone, she can give it to me, but her contract is refreshed.

Still something like $400 with her discount!

But's here's whats really confusing and I still don't understand or believe it. She entered sprint in April of 2009, and then in June added me and one of our sons to a Family plan. I recall my son and I buying phones at Best Buy. She is eligible for the $75 discount in June - not clear why June and not April. And somehow, I am eligible for the full discount myself on my line paying only $149 for a brand new EPIC. which makes no sense since I purchased this Epic in June 2009 and entered a 2 year contract... all this according to the Rep in online Chat. It makes no sense. All I can think of is the phone was discounted. Looking for my receipt.

And even if true, I'm not sure I want to reenter a 2 year contract on this phone if I can somehow fix it for $100.

I'm reading the LCD can be replaced with an OEM part. Has anybody done this? Will start a new thread for that.

Thanks.

How did you buy the Epic in June 2009 when it didn't come out until August of 2010? That's the most confusing part.
