SERO - Best pre-4G phone?

So my wife is on the old Sero Premium plan with her Optimus S. If we get her a new phone she's going to get bumped up to the extra $10/mo for the 4g phone.

Does anyone know what the best phone is that isn't 4G that I could go hunting for that would let her stay on her current plan but be an upgrade from the Optimus S?

It has to be 3G only and has to have been released prior to 10/2011.

When did the original Evo and Epic come out? Were they 4G? Is there anywhere to find a list of older phones by release date anywhere?

In my opinion the best phone that meets these criteria is the Motorola XPRT.

FYI, you CAN stay on the SERO plan with any phone upgrade (though you'll have to add the $10 per month with the 4G phones, as you mentioned). You have to do it over the phone, though, as the people in the Sprint store can't seem to figure out how to let you keep your plan.
