I just activated my LG Esteem and went into the about phone where it shows my phone number etc. In the category "Mobile Network Type". It is showing CDMA-1xRTT.

I signed up for the $60.00 plan and I know 4G is not in my area where I live but should that not be showing 4G or something similar even if it is not in my area?. The thing is If I go into an area with 4G I want to be able to send and receive with 4G because that is what I am paying for. Will the phone work at 4G or will it still work at 1X in a 4G area?.

The 'Mobile Network Type' will show which type of connection you are currently receiving. You stated you are not in a 4g area so it will not show a 4g connection. My advice would be to dial *228 and select option 5. This will update you PRL(Preferred Roaming List) so you can connect to the most recently upgraded towers which could possibly give you a 3g signal. And, if you enter a 4g area it will switch automatically to LTE. hth
