Help "Set Current Time" issue

Hello everyone,
I've had a G2 Touch for 2 weeks now and periodically (0-4 times a day I'd say) my phone asks me to set the current time, because it is not able to find the time from the carrier. I have auto sync time set (otherwise it doesn't know what time it is when I turn it on/off) and when the notification comes up, I use the drop down to "set current time" and it tells me it can't find the time and I should set it manually (which is just setting the time zone, not the time). Is anyone else having this issue with T-Mobile or another carrier, or is it just my sporadic service that is causing the problem? Service drops in and out all day as I go from home to work etc.
Someone please help, this is getting annoying!

ps to Phandroid server admins: Please combine the G2 Touch and Hero sections into one! Sick of checking two places for the same phone. They are different phones just as much as an Orange Hero is different than an unlocked Hero on Vodafone (for ex.) and you don't have separate sections for them! Don't inherit T-Mobile's absurdity. Same goes for myTouch3G/Magic (mostly) as well as every future Android phone carried by T-Mobile.

I had this happen this morning. I was on underground on a train and got the message - it didn't clear after a while on above ground so I just told it my time zone. I think if it happens again, I'd just hit "Clear Notifications" as the time was right. I guess it has something to do with not being able to get the time from the network. Seems like a possible bug though. Perhaps report it to HTC?

I've tried doing this, but it doesn't help. Still at least once a day I have to set my current time zone, because the phone tells me it can't find it from the network (even if I have coverage). I'm thinking about backing everything up and resetting it back to factory defaults. Maybe it has something to do with when I turned it on the first time and set it up, I didn't have any coverage.
I also wrote to HTC. The response was laughable. He gave me instructions to go into settings and disable auto time updating. Not a solution, it loses track of time very quickly. I'm afraid if I ever write in to say the phone isn't working, they'll just tell me not to use it.

Unfortunately that IS the current solution to the problem.

The auto time updating setting queries the Mobile Network to get the current time and if it can't get to the network this notification is displayed. (I get it every day at work as the mobile signal in my office is very weak)

Personally I just clear the notification and let it set the time on those occasion when it can connect to the network.

Hopefully there will be a proper NTP client for Android along at some point which will mean I can get the correct time over any internet connection rather than needing a mobile network signal.

I get this numerous times a day when I am at home at least. I live in a border region with virtually no mobile coverage. So far the time has been spot on though, so I just ignore it. I agree that it makes the phone look as though something is wrong.
