Setting date format to MMM

As far as I can tell, the only kind of date formatting I can do is changing the order of month, day, year. I would like to change the date format to include the 3-letter month, i.e. so it says 7 Dec 2012 instead of 7-12-12.

Is there any way to do this?

Hmm... I'm not aware of a way to do that up in the notification bar or stock apps, but there is a widget set that I've used in the past, I believe it's called 'Widgetsoid'.

It would let you make text based widgets (I would use date/time), in many different ways. You could do a Month abbreviation with that one (but it does take a while to set up).

Hm, I should have been more specific.

I do indeed see the date in the format I want on the lockscreen, but in the contacts the birthday shows up as 12-8-2012. Strangely enough, if I edit the birthday and remove the year, it then shows up as December 8. Odd.

I guess that's the only place it shows up this way, every other places seems ok so far.
