Help Setting up the Maxx with no 4G coverage

I had my new Maxx sent home instead of to school because I was coming home this weekend anyways. So I put the SIM card in and turned it on and went through the basic Touch the Android set up. Well then it says "Please wait until your phone has been activated and restarted." It sits on this screen forever and then says that I can either retry or make an emergency call. I'm assuming it's not going through because I'm in an area with no 4G coverage? Or am I doing something completely wrong?
 
You do not need to be in a 4G area for it to activate. But my experience is that it does take longer and sometimes a few tries before it takes...
 
Did you get the phone from Verizon through the mail or from a store? If it was delivered to you, you will probably have to go online to activate. if you bought it from a verizon store, they should have done that for you. On their web page you can activate the phone. If you don't want to do that, do you have another phone you can use? If you do, call verizon and they can activate over the phone. You can use SKYPE or any other voip service to call them if you don't have a landline.
 
Go to settings and switch to 3G. It comes set for 4G and will not activate with this setting in a 3G area. When it activates you can go back and set it for both.
