Shapewriter

Newbie
Anyone tried using this application yet? Seems like a great input editor for those that want to type stuff without using the keyboard (e.g. quick bit of text).

Any feedback or opinions on its use?

I just had a quick go now. I was expecting a virtual standalone keyboard and not a full notepad app. However you can still use what youlve written for email or texts. It does work well, although I need more training using the game included. Its promising, even in beta.

I was going to start a new thread, but this will do....

You can get that shapewriter beta apk insialler from www.shapewriter.com/andbeta.html
Download the file directly to you phone. Then install app installer from the marketplace so you can install the application.

Then goto settings > applications and tick to allow unknown sources (if you dare!).

Run app installer, install shapewriter and walla! You a now a beta tester for an amazing virtual keyboard.

Very laggy, but accurate. Implements OpenGL for switching between menus (does some sort of rotating animation), very slick. Turns on GPS to tag the whatever note you're typing. Well anyways, here are some screenshots I took:

=] It's in beta, but looks very promising.

Masonator, is this your app? I have it running now. It's definitely slow but very sleek in design. Maybe If I reboot my g1 it will run better.

lolz i wish. nar, i just sent them an email about it and they sent me the beta link, figured its best to share. more people using, more bugs found, better the app.

I've had a good play with it now and - at the moment - it really is quite buggy, the keyboard is too small and some of the features straight up dont work.... The....<wince> iphone version is a hundred times better... but im sure it will be improved in time.

edit.... just wanted to point out that the iphone version doesn't have the SMS ability or the geo-tagging of the notes. just functionaly, it runs better. theres still an android fanboy in me somewhere...

edit 2... i mean im a fanboy of android. theres no one, and will never be anyone in me....

a) pretty good application - innovative.
b) should be allowed to switch off GPS "feature". Wastes battery life.
c) does not do curse words. :-P
d) auto-rotate for landscape would be nice.
e) larger buttons on portrate, if possible.
f) direct integration in Android would be killer.

Current version works system wide; and it works great.

However, I cannot tap to change the word I typed above the keyboard. Anyone else having the same issue? This is on a Droid.

swype is being ported to android. It's (keyboard) unclear though if it will be licsensed through a company (like HTC, or moto) or if it will be downloadable throught the market. Either way I've heard people are "typing" 50+ words a minute right now on the Omnia 2 with it. That's rediculous.......

Swype looks the same as ShapeWriter.

I've fixed the bug by selecting the default android keyboard then ShapeWriter again. Weird but it worked.

It's kinda laggy in the browser but its still really good. I wouldn't mind using the nexus now and give up my physical keyboard.
