Shazam started charging iphone users!

Is there a limit of 5 songs on the update? If so...I'll never update my version unless it expires!!!

If you've used Shazam prior to July 13 (today), then the update gives you the full version with no limit of tags.

So if I ever did a reset or wipe to install another rom, the "paid" status i get from being grandfathered in is tied to my gmail account?

I'm curious about this as well... It seems like it should be tied so there shouldn't be a problem.

Edit: just downloaded the update. I like the new UI.

Wow... I only installed it on Saturday afternoon! just made it! Checked and I have paid status, unlimited tagging. whew!

Paid status here too. I've only ever used it once, but it's nice to know I can use it unlimited amount for free!

It says in the changelog before you download that you will be grandfathered in to the unlimited tagging. This must have come from the fallout they are taking in the iTunes App Store. Lots of users including myself had unlimited tagging for years. The latest update dropped that to 5 tags/month. Their rating has been dropping steadily since then.

Saw the update this morning and wanted to check on here first before updating.

Just did the update and mine shows paid as well.

I'd still like to try Soundhound which has been getting great reviews.

I upgraded today, and it gave me the paid version like promised.

You can check it by going to Settings -> Payment Status.


The new version goes straight to the mp3 store for me. I just purchased a few of my tagged songs on the fly to test it out. Well it doesn't go the the mp3 app, so much as it seems to be built right in Shazam itself.

You still have some benefits of the paid app. Like unlimited tagging (you only get 5 tags a month otherwise). But since your still using the free app, you will still get ads and stuff.

I would venture a guess that you are still getting the ads as you've never actually paid for it but rather grandfathered in. It may be that if you actually pay for it the ads will disappear.
