shimcachemutex/ Nexus?

Firewall just popped up a warning that svchost was trying to update? shimcachemutex/Google update. I was doing something else, so I told OA to terminate it.

Supposed to be some sort of Google update, and after searching a couple of posts mentioned Nexus. I have a Nexus S, but it's rooted and running CM7.

All I've got is the usb driver for the phone.

I'm running the Iron version of Chrome - it doesn't update automatically.
I get Gmail through Thunderbird. I don't bother with the web page.

I have no installed software from Google except Google Talk at all on the PC.

What is Google trying to update? I just see Google Update exe installed itself.

No plugin for browser - cleaned out Picasa and Blogger and haven't touched them in over 2 years. No posts on any. I like Flickr better.
No Google Maps anywhere - not on the phone either. No Google Earth.

You said cleaned out. Did you uninstall them?

Google updater tends to stay around any way, b/c many google apps install to your Windows account profile folder instead of Program Files directory, so Google can avoid having to deal with UAC on Vista / Windows 7. Look in users/{youraccountname}/appdata/local for a folder named Google and see if it is there.

No, Google won't let you drop them. I just deleted all the info and posts.

I'm on XP so Google is in the Programs directory. I did find stuff under settings, also.
Cleaned out the temp.

I also just changed anything Google from trusted to ask in the firewall. That will at least tell me what is asking. This started in July. No entries for years. Set the Voice account up in 2010, never used it. Never had an update, either.

I didn't say drop them, I'm talking about the actual applications themselves.

And, yes, you *can* permanently close your Google account as well.

I've tried to close Picasa and Blogger via Dashboard. I always used the web versions. Had neither installed on computer. Can't remove from Dashboard unless I delete Gmail account.
