I'm looking for a shopping list that will add an item when I scan a barcode, or enter it in manually, rhen assign a quantity.. That's really all I'm looking for. I tried Price Book from the market, but all the info it wanted in addition to the barcode was a little overwhelming (unless I missed something about it). Any suggestions?
 
Does anyone know if "Grocery King" is what I might be looking for?
 
My only problem that I found in using that was having to load all that other info. Is that stuff optional?
 
All I entered was the prices... I had most of my list typed up already because I didn't even know u could scan items...all in all it only took a minute for each item and price to be input and the fact that it gives a running total is really helpful if ur on a budget
 
Right, but is adding the price optional? All I want to do is to be able to scan a code, and know that it's on the list. Pricing and categorizing fall to much lower priorities. FWIW, I don't mean to hammer that point, but when I tried out the app I couldn't figure out how to bypass all the other info that it seemed to want; it otherwise seemed to be exactly what I wanted. Is there something I overlooked or did wrong? Does the developer maybe have a site I could look at, that you're aware of?
 
I don't know of a site but if u scan an item then pull up the menu (I'm using the droid) and click save, u skip everything else and all that save is the items name to ur list
 
Well, knowing that you did it on your Droid makes believe I can do it on mine. I'll monkey with it some more. Thanks for the info..
 
So it looks like I'm gonna need some step by step instructions, "For Dummies" style, as I'm still not having any luck getting Price Book to do what I want. I go to "add product", and see Item Name at the top. I select the barcode scan option, and use it to scan an object. Upon doing so, it pulls the name of the product from wherever, and I press save at the bottom of the screen...only nothing happens and it continuously asks for a category. Did you (or anyone else) have to fill that in, just to get it to add the object to the list?
 
FWIW to anyone reading this, I finally settled on Grocery King. You scan barcodes to both add the items to a list, as well as *remove* them from the list while shopping (way cool, and was a big draw for me). I found a Google message board by Price Book's developer, and posted my question/complaint there. Apparently, the app is designed to be quasi-collaborative (as best I can figure out), so that each person that enters the info is doing so for everyone who scans it in the future. Again, I'm not 100% sure about this, but it's what I kind of pieced together from his posting.
 
Any update to this? I'm looking for a good shopping app and came across this one as well as several others. Anyone have a preference?
 
well, as you can see in the post above, I went with Grocery King. Having had it for a while and used it a few times, I'm still glad I got it, and highly recommend it.

I'm considering doing my holiday shopping online, and had heard that it's tax-free, but most sites seem to be charging taxes, so I was wondering how much the cost difference would be compared to going to the store.
 
I could be way off on this, do take our with a grain of salt. That being said, I think where you live impacts it. For example, I live in upstate New York, where a website has to charge state taxes if they also have a branch within state boarders (think Target or Walmart websites). For things like Amazon, I haven't used recently enough to remember if it changed, but that was the type that didn't charge tax as it didn't exist within New York's borders. Hope that helps....
 
Whoever is still following this thread - I recently came out with an app (QwikList Voice) that allows you to build lists either manually, by voice, or by scanning with barcode. My question is whether pricing/categorizing are important enough to add as features to this app. It sounds like removing items by scanning is also a desirable feature. Thoughts? Should I consider adding another widget for launching add/delete by scanning from the home screen?
 
Does your supermarket have the option to use a hand-held scanner to scan each item as you put it in your cart, and then just ring up the total at the cashier? Mine does. What I want is an app that will allow me to use the Android device as the hand-held scanner, including the interface with the cash register at payment time. Right now I have to juggle the scanner and my Palm Centro (containing my shopping list) while pushing the cart.
 
Nope, my app is a simple list building application without any bells and whistles (pricing, quantities, etc). The key feature is the ability to add by voice from the home widget with a single touch. I guess my question is whether these are useful features for barcode type shopping apps, or whether it is enough to have the item added by barcode.
