Shotgun Microphone

HI not sure if this is the right place to ask this question. I have the Sony experia m2 model d2303, I really like this phone, and do a lot of video recording with it. I really want to start using an external microphone for better audio. Would this phone work with an external shotgun microphone? Or is there a way to make one work with this phone?
