Should I stick with Verizon or go to Sprint in NYC?

rinso

Newbie
I've been with Verizon for several years and had absolutely no complaints. The only reason I'm thinking of switching is that I have a problem with the way Verizon treats their union workers.

Without getting into a discussion about that, I'm wondering if I should switch. My Verizon contract is up in early April (though I could upgrade now if I stick with Verizon). I know that Sprint is going to be switching from Wi-Max to LTE and don't want to be stuck with a bad phone once the switch happens.

Word of mouth tells me that Sprint's coverage in NYC is fine, so for me it really comes down to whether an early April phone will soon be completely out-of-date until I can upgrade in a couple of years. If that's the case, I may put my feelings about Verizon aside for another two-year contract.

For what it's worth, I'll probably stick with the HTC phones, but might be open to a Samsung model...as long as I can root it and get rid of the bloat.

Thanks for any input and/or advice!

If you switch to Sprint is Verizon going to treat thier union workers better?

Seriously, I'm sure Verizons union workers have people who are watching out for thier welfare.

That being said, I think you should either stay with Verizon or switch to Sprint based on what you think is best for you.

I just had a thought, (no remarks from the peanut gallery here) if it cost you $100 per month more to switch to Sprint, would you still be considering switching in protest to Verizons treatment of thier workers?
That's what I thought..... :D

Best of luck whatever you decide to do,

I'm in a major battle with Sprint right now over what I consider to be unlawful practices. That two year contract you sign up for is only a two year contract on your part. They say in that contract that THEY can change the terms at any time (like two months into your contract you go from having unlimited data to a 5GB cap and get a $500 bill for overage). Sometimes the grass is not always greener on the other side. My two cents.

Since you opened up the can of worms it's going to be discussed. I found this article about Sprint.

?Overall, there?s just the problem of Sprint?s basic attitude toward workers.?

CWA dates its tensions with Sprint to the 1980s, when the company had a landline business that employed many unionized workers. As CWA spokeswoman Candice Johnson tells it, management went head-to-head with union organizers during contract negotiations in a way that was more aggressive than in previous typically fraught talks.

Thanks for the responses. My major concern was whether or not this would be a good time to get a Sprint phone, with the big changes coming up.

I do appreciate hearing about Sprint's relationship with their workers...that doesn't make me thrilled either.

And, yes, if enough people leave Verizon and let them know why, they just might have a different attitude towards the unions. And as I said, my main concern is not hating my phone soon after I get it, but all things being equal I'd prefer to give my money to a company other than Verizon.

Thanks again!

Verizon Wireless is NOT unionized. As a matter of fact, I hope they never do go union. I am well compensated and I do not need a group of individuals whose sole goal is to pad their own pockets create the illusion they are looking out for workers.

Verizon Communictions--a separate company--does have unions. Honestly, the wireline business is a sinking ship and those workers are trying to maintain status quo in an environment where they are rapidly becoming extinct.

At the turn of the century, unions served a purpose. I question their utility in this day and age.

Came to post this. ^^

I was forced to join a union when I was a kid (or be fired), and it cost me money. But hey, I did get the quarterly union newsletter, so there's that.

As far as Sprint is concerned, their coverage in the city is fine, but do you ever travel? Get north of Westchester and it can be hit or miss. VZW is rock solid.

Something to consider....when you contract is up with Verizon, you can continue it on a month-to-month basis. If you are with Sprint and your contract is up, to continue service, they "may" require you to commit to another 24 months of service.

It was a year ago when I learned this, so it may have changed...but it is something you should be aware of.

Whatever your decision, good luck... :-)

Can anyone familiar with this elaborate?
