Help Should I update Android from 4.4.2 to 5.0 Lollipop?

I bought a Samsung Galaxy S5 and this comes with Android 4.4.2. The phone has a software update for Lollipop, should I update the phone? I read about some nasty Lollipop bugs (battery drain etc), I do not know if those bugs has been resolved and is unsure if I should delay updating to Lollipop until it is stable.
Should I update to Lollipop or stay at 4.4.2 for now?

It depends on which model of Galaxy S5 you have, as per #1.2 of 40 Galaxy S5 models - Dummies Guide, as some Lollipop firmwares are considerably better than others.

Yes, You can update your s5 to Lollipop to ensure you'll get new features.

Yes, the phone is asking me to tap to update to Lollipop. I do not know if Lollipop is stable at the moment and thus may not want to update till the major bugs has been resolved.

As mentioned there are varying experiences being reported depending on what model and carrier you have. Also not everyone is happy with the feature set in Lollipop as some things have been added and others removed or changed. Try to find discussions on this upgrade that relate to your exact device and carrier and that should help you make an informed decision.

You have the Canadian version, G900W8, of the Galaxy S5 and they all run on the same firmware version which has been updated. Personally, I can see no reason to not install this version, OC1, of Lollipop as it is one of the more recent and stable versions. I would suggest reading through post #1 of S5 Lollipop Update Problems - Dummies Guide as this will help you prepare for the installation and let you know what to expect.

Thank you for the information. It is good to know that "you see no reason not to install this version..", that would save the headache of downgrading from Lollipop to Kit Kat when things go bad with the upgrade to Lollipop.

I will take your good advice to install the update to Lollipop. I haven't used the phone yet, presently still customizing, installing apps etc. It will take me a couple of days to complete that and the phone will be ready for use. I have never used Kit Kat before, let alone Lollipop, I think I will use the phone for 2 weeks on the Kit Kat to get a feel of the performance and battery life. Then I will update the phone to Lollipop, by doing this, I can tell if there is a difference in performance and battery life. I will post back on results after I've upgrade to Lollipop.

Personally, I would recommend upgrading to Lollipop and then install apps.

Personally, I would recommend staying at 4.4.2 for now until a more stable version of Lollipop will have been released. :)

Sorry to butt in but has anybody learned how to delete the lollipoop file that keeps asking me to install itself 20 billion f'ing times a day. I am getting "sick to the back of my teeth".....

At least you can do a Factory Data Reset after installing Lollipop and you will lose nothing. ;)

I've just upgraded to Lollipop. The update took less than 15 minutes and went well without a hitch.

Noticed the major change on sounds and notifications - more advanced features now. I still get the sound, mute and vibrate options despite what I read about Google "forgot" to include the mute option (thank goodness "mute" is available)

The white background on the Settings page is a surprise, took sometime to get used to the white background. I think, maybe, the white background will used up more battery power.

Haven't installed any apps yet, planning to do so..

Cannot comment anything about battery yet, just installed Lollipop 2 hours ago, have not used the phone at all.

Fortunately this is not a stock Samsung feature and does not appear on the world and regional models but is, rather, a feature that is added, along with locked bootloaders, etc; by some U.S. carrier models such as AT&T and Verizon, whereby you cannot refuse an update!!!

You could try a Factory Data Reset to clear the downloaded file but it will force itself on to your phone again unless you root it or select to only update over Wi-Fi and then turn off Wi-Fi and never use it again.

When I went to lollipop I had a few apps that didn't work very well, I learned if you uninstall them and then reinstall them everything is good to go. I have had verizons version of lollipop for about 6 weeks and don't have anymore more issues with it after working threw the first few glitches. Remove your SD card before updating to lollipop this will save you some of the problems.
Not everyone is having the problems you read about here, I know 3 others people with S5 that have had no problems

Thx for the info. You and the Oke AZ are great sources of information. Now i shal go read your dummies guide to lollipoop, make the leap and report back my experience. Procrastination has always been my friend until he is unavailable.......

All the talk of bugs in Lollipop, and people not liking certain parts of the UI, I get this feeling of dejavue, if I remember correctly it was the same when Kit Kat was launched, now people don't want to leave it! Phil

Actually i think it was jumblebean that was the flop. Personally i almost do not remember the kitkat rollout. But to your point, YES, many people do not like change and yes lollipoop will prevail. But some of us are old and like to have things change slower. Btw us old farts usually have more of the $$ that keep the Vaginas profitable. So why force a shitty experience why not OFFER it. The ideals of Freedom and Liberty are just that, but forcing hope and change.........well i have now digressed....

I too am an old fart (very old), but I have updated my phone with every iteration of Android, and am now on Lollipop and have no problems whatsoever, but, and this is a big, big BUT, I run the international unVerizoned version of Lollipop, so I have a distinct advantage over our American cousins stuck with that sh**ty Verizon version.
